How many times do you wake up and still feel rubbish? It’s because you have had a rough night, maybe because of a dream. Maybe you woke up a few times through the night. But as soon as you open up your eyes in the morning, your mood is set for the day. Sometimes we wake up with a feeling of dread, knowing we have to do something that we don’t want to do. Other mornings we wake up and we just cannot face the day, so we close our eyes again. But if you wake up feeling refreshed and ready for the day, then you are already winning for the day.
Do you want to know some tips and ideas about how easy it is to wake up feeling refreshed? Then read on.
Make Sure Your Room Isn’t Too Hot And Stuffy
If you keep your bedroom warm and toasty, it will be so lovely when you go to sleep or whilst you are asleep. But you will not want to get up in the morning. So setting the heating to go on before bed, then for a while whilst you are asleep is a good idea. But let the room cool down after that, so it is easier to get up in the morning and you wake up feeling refreshed.
Let The Sunlight Into Your Room
As soon as you wake up, open the curtains. This lets the fresh air in from the windows and helps to get you ready to get out of bed in the morning. This is easier to do in the summer when the mornings are brighter, but it will help to brighten your mood for the day. Just think how grumpy we are in the winter, when it is dark when we wake up and dark when we go to bed.
Letting the light into your bedroom in the morning raises the serotonin in your brain. This boosts your mood and gives you an excellent start to the day. If it is too dark to let the light into your room, invest in some smart lights, you can have the light set bright white light when you need it. This will certainly help you get up on the dark mornings.
Stop Pressing The Snooze Button
Believe me, you will feel worse for this. You need to get up as soon as the alarm goes off. It is even better if you get up before the alarm goes off, as this puts you in a positive mood for the day. That feeling of beating the alarm in the morning is awesome!
Pressing the snooze button means you doze off again and you will feel worse when you finally get out of bed. Pressing the snooze button also means you are likely to oversleep and rush to get ready for work. That puts you in a negative mood before you have even left the house.
Think About The Good Things Happening Today
Be positive! I know that is difficult when you might be struggling. But before you go to bed, think about something positive that you can do the next day. It might be saying hello to people on your way to the shop or to work. If you go to sleep feeling rather negative, you are guaranteed for a restless night. Whereas if you go to bed happy, you will wake up feeling more positive.
If You Wake Up Early, Stay Awake
How many times have you woken up at 5am, looked at the clock and gone back to bed? Then you wake up at 7am feeling worse for it. It happens more often than not. So if you do wake up early, use that time to do something positive. Cook the evening meal, browse the internet or get your housework done before work.
You will feel so much better in the morning knowing that the housework doesn’t need doing when you get home from work. Waking up early and staying awake also makes you feel good because you wake up before the rest of the family and you get some precious alone time to enjoy.
Surround Yourself In Energy
What comes to mind when you think about energy? Is it bright colours or is it flowers by the side of your bed? Whatever it is, make sure that you surround yourself with the positivity and energy that makes you feel good. Bright colours like orange, yellow and red all help you to feel energetic. Maybe it is because it’s the colours that we associate with summer. But if you choose bedding sets with these colours or have a fleece through at the end of the bed, it will fill you with energy when you wake up.
Like I said early as soon as you open your eyes, your mood is set for the day. So put colourful flowers by your bed so they are the first thing that you see in the morning.
Wake Up Feeling Refreshed
Hopefully, these ideas will help you to start feeling better in the mornings and ready to face the day.
